Website Copy Is Extremely Important
You’d better think again if you think the text on your website isn’t important! The MOST important part of you website is website copy. If you have a nonprofessional website copy then you shouldn’t expect high-quality success. No matter how great the graphics look or the products are copy that isn’t good enough and will make your website fall short in seconds of a visitor arriving. To somebody who is trying to sell their goods using their website it’s not very good news. How are you going to make any sales if the visitors won’t stick around long enough?
The initial few seconds of when the visitors arrive on to your website is crucial to having a successful website. You NEED to get their attention as soon as they land on your site. Once you’ve got them there, you want to keep them interested so they’ll stay.
Potential customers are always looking for information on specific subjects. They will browse your site as soon as they’ve gotten there to see if you have the information they came looking for. You must grab their attention quickly before they leave your site, and you lose a sale.
If your site has horribly written copy it’s doomed to fail. These are the most common mistakes for the ones that do fail: provide information not related to their website topic, boring text, fancy or small style fonts, and/or contain several spelling errors. Because there are so many mistakes you could make concerning the copy, these will give you an idea of how poorly written copy can hurt your website. If you build your website with XSite Pro, you may be ahead of the curve as this software has a built in spell checker, SEO and much more.
Think like your visitor. What copy would you want to see on the site, if you were looking to buy the same products that you currently plan to offer? Would you like unrelated material to read or something that makes you want to read more about it and grabs your attention?
Most likely you will want something that gets your attention. You can complete this by… You must know who your target audience is. What don’t they like? Know your customers. Now give the visitor something they enjoy reading.
Your target market is moms with young children, for an example. They’re more than likely too busy to read a lot of text. They most likely will skim through information and pick out pieces of text that seem to relate to them. Do you think your copy should be geared toward astronauts? I don’t think so! If you use a bunch of big words they don’t understand they will just end up leaving your site.
If you write simple English they will want to read more. A website relies on grabbing visitors’ attention and keeps them there. By using poor copy you are losing customers and potential sales. Provide them with what they would like to read and enjoy the profits you could make from them.
