The Linking Problem

Many online marketing techniques rely on getting other people to post links or graphics that connect to your site on their sites.Exchanging links can be effective provided that you don’t mind dedicating a piece of your own internet real estate to the provision of reciprocal links back to your linking partners.  These other sites don’t want to link to you without you linking back, after all!The issue with this is that only a limited number of graphics and links may not be particularly distracting, but if you overdo it, you site will be overly cluttered.

You are probably familiar with keywords in their importance for search engine optimization (SEO).That is one of the more prevalent strategies on today’s internet, with everyone trying their level best to fully optimize their websites.In essence, a major element of SEO is to use a certain number of relevant keywords on your site to induce the search engines to rank your site or pages very high for related search results.

The limit here is that writing for search engines means you’re not writing for the actual people visiting your site.If you overuse keywords on your pages, it will unlikely read clumsily and not convey your message well.Surfers are getting to be much more savvy to sites that are not well written for SEO, and simply pass on from the sites that seem too clumsy with the use of keywords.

Building Your List

Another online limitation is that sometimes, people simply won’t sign up for your email list marketing campaign.In a face to face situation in the store, you can make a personalized plea for an email address in return for information or a free giveaway, but it may be more difficult to convince them register for your list online.  On the other hand, though, the people who do sign up for your email list online are generally customers who are very interested in what you offer and will purchase from you again.

These issues are some of the limitation you’ll likely face as you develop your online marketing strategy, but just a bit of creativity and work can help you overcome them.  Plus, no matter how the internet marketing limitations seem, remember that your information is still reaching many, many people.
